This is it! My first foray into the world of blogging and I’m so excited to be here.
It’s taken a while to get this far. I started by dipping into some established Mummy blogs, just to get a feel for what was out there, what I liked and what I wasn’t so sure about. There are so many blogs out there that I could have read for days and only just scratched the tip of the iceberg! I narrowed it down by looking at a selection of the Voices of 2013 finalists on Kidspot. Hats off to you ladies – there are some very talented bloggers out there!
Next, I decided to focus on the way I wanted my blog to look before I launched myself into the whole content-creation business. So, I’ve immersed myself in WordPress and gone cross-eyed learning about widgets, plugins and permalinks. I’ve locked myself out of my dashboard and wondered whether I am really up to the techie side of the show. Lucky for me, my partner is a computer genius – phew!
I’ve spent hours trawling around on the Internet looking for the right background, header and font for my blog. You see, I had this picture in my head of what I was after – sweet, colourful, and a bit hippy-chick – and I couldn’t seem to find the right materials to get the look. That is, until I stumbled on a few sites where I swooned over the choice of fabulous freebies.
I found the gorgeous blue polka dot background “Miss Dottie” at June Lily; the scrumptious header “Shot-Through-the-Heart” is from Leelou blogs. Both these sites offer custom design (one day!) as well as lovely stuff for free. Perfect when you are just setting out.
Finally, the header font is “Little Miss Priss” from FontSpace. Such a range of different styles on this site, it was hard to choose.
There’s a lot more to do to complete the look (more to follow), but now, it’s on with the important job of writing some content.
What look were you aiming for with your blog template?
